Week 3: Thought Shifts for Food

Week 3 I want to talk about the thought shift that comes when you stop asking yourself "Can I have this?" and shift to "Do I want this?"

Let me first start off by saying that I think have a protocol in which you eat is a VERY good idea if you are someone who struggles with emotional eating. This protocol is the way in which you will eat. I believe in having this because it takes a lot of confusion, decision making, wondering and questioning away; when you commit to a certain way of eating.

However, I believe that there is not just one way to eat for everybody. Part of what I do in my coaching is work to find a way that works for you, your needs, and your body. If you are struggling to find what works for you; please take advantage of the FREE 30 minute mini-session to discuss this and I can help you get on the right path.

Once you have committed to a way of eating; you have decided that this is the commitment that you are going to honor; you no longer have to ask yourself "Can I have this?". But you can start looking at your protocol and asking yourself the question "Do I want this?"

When we have the thought "Can I have this?" it is a restrictive question in it self. We are asking permission for something. This thought will create feelings of guilt, worry, anxiety, confusion. When those are the feelings that you are feeling our actions are often out of avoidance of negative feelings. For emotional & stress eaters this avoidance comes in the way of eating or drinking. That action continues to lead us to negative results.

However, when we switch our thinking to "Do I want this?" This is a non-judgmental thought. It creates a feeling of wonder, curiosity, freedom to say yes or no. These feelings give us a different set of actions. We have power & freedom to ask ourselves questions to answer that initial thought "Do I want this?" Our actions no longer have to be about avoiding unpleasant feelings because of our initial thought.

Be mindful of the way you think about food; what ways to you hear yourself talking to yourself about food? Switching your thoughts is key to getting freedom over the thoughts that create negative feelings. These negative feels create actions in you; that will NEVER give you the RESULTS that you want.
